The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MoNRE) should continue completing Sate management institutions and mechanisms and the legal system on land, resources, environment, minerals, sea and islands.

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung made the request while attending a ceremony to mark the ministry’s 10 th founding anniversary in Hanoi on August 5.

The Government leader stressed that the past 10 years saw the continuous construction and development of the MoNRE in particular and the natural resources and environment sector in general.

The ministry has drafted and submitted to the National Assembly and the Government many policies and laws in seven areas under its State management, especially the Laws on Land, Environmental Protection, Minerals and Water Resources, and the Law on the Sea of Vietnam.

The PM also noted that the survey work has been stepped up, efficiently serving the assessment of reserves, the effective management, exploitation and use of precious natural resources such as land, water, marine resources and minerals, thus making practical contributions to the development of each locality, each region and the country as a whole.

The sector’s international cooperation activities have brought in practical results, especially in calling for international support for Vietnam ’s viewpoint on sea and island sovereignty, attracting international aid, increasing resources to cope with climate change and strengthening scientific and technological potential for the sector, he said.

PM Dung stated that in the new development period, the Party and State consider the natural resource and environment sector as a main pillar for the sustainable development, helping tap national potential and strengths for development.

Therefore, the MoNRE should continue to perfect the legal framework in the sector while improving the quality of natural resources management, hydrometeorological forecast and climate change supervision. The PM also stressed the need to improve the quality of the environment, ensuring the sustainable development of the country.

At the ceremony, PM Dung presented the Ho Chi Minh Order to the natural resources and environment sector.-VNA
