Hanoi (VNA) – More tourists now choose national parks as their destinations, which is a positive signal but also exerts pressure on ecosystem and environment.

During fact-finding trips to over 10 national parks in four continents and 14 out of 32 national parks in Vietnam, travel agency TransViet initiated a campaign “Save our Forest” and offered suggestions to improve tourism services and protect the environment.

It also called on visitors to raise awareness of forest protection and suggested placing more rubbish bins at national parks, build safe cooking areas with professional firefighting equipment, expand parking areas at forest gates and use eco-friendly materials.

Studies showed that tourism activities heighten risk of land and water pollution, especially in areas with limited waste treatment capacity.

According to the World Economic Forum’s global competitiveness rankings 2017, Vietnam’s environment protection indexes remained low. Among 136 countries and territories worldwide, Vietnam’s environment sustainability ranked 129th, waste volume at 128th place, environment regulations at 115th, water treatment at 107th and deforestation at 103rd.-VNA
