A conference was held in the central province of Ninh Thuan on July 1 to discuss environmental management before commencing the construction of a nuclear power plant in the province.

The four-day function will concentrate on three main issues, including the assessment of environmental impacts and environmental management, radioactivity monitoring and safety.

According to experts from the Japan Electric Power Information Centre (JEPIC), radioactive and non-radioactive waste generated in the process of building and operating nuclear power plants needs to be strictly controlled in order to protect local people from the detrimental impacts of radiation.

They suggested developing a report that fully evaluates the environmental effects and includes a number of solutions to protect the environment.

The event was jointly organised by the Ninh Thuan Nuclear Power Plant project management board and the JEPIC under the Japan International Cooperation Centre (JICC).-VNA
