The Peruvian Embassy in Hanoi on July 25 launched a writing contest on Peru to mark the country’s Independence Day (July 28) and the 20 th anniversary of the Vietnam-Peru diplomatic ties.

All Vietnamese citizens, especially students, are encouraged to take part in the contest by submitting a 3,000-5,000 word essay in Spanish or English from now until August 22.

An award ceremony is scheduled to be held on September 10.

Addressing the launching ceremony, Chargé d’Affairs of the Peruvian Embassy Luis Tsuboyama said every year, the Peruvian people around the world cerebrate the Independence Day (better known as the Fiestas Patrias) to commemorate the 1821 Declaration of Independence delivered by Peruvian national hero Jose de San Martin.

Together with a treasure of unique culture, Peru has also been one of the fastest growing economies in the world, he stated.

He spoke highly of the role Vietnam plays in Southeast Asia , expressing hope that the ties between the two countries will be further accelerated.

He also revealed that the Peruvian President is scheduled to make an official visit to Vietnam next month, showing the country’s strong commitment to the ties.

Meanwhile, Vu Cong Tien, deputy head of the American Department under the Foreign Ministry, said Vietnam and Peru have enjoyed a growing partnership with rising two-way trade.

Many Vietnamese enterprises have operated productively in Peru , including the Vietnam National Oil and Gas Group and the Viettel Telecom, he noted.-VNA
