The Health Department of northern Ha Nam province on August 15 received health equipment worth 934,000 EUR (around 25.8 billion VND) granted by the European Union (EU) and the government of Luxembourg.

The equipment is part of the 5 million EUR Health Sector Capacity Support Project sponsored by the EU and Luxembourg. The project has benefitted the three northern provinces of Bac Ninh, Bac Giang and Ha Nam as well as nine other partner provinces in the 2009-2014 period.

The equipment, including image-diagnosis machinery, test equipment and other essential medical tools, will be handed over to two provincial health units, two district health units and 116 commune health stations across the province.

Provincial health department Director Nguyen Lap Quyet vowed to use the equipment effectively. He also suggested the sponsors continue supporting local health units in enhancing their capacity to better serve local residents.

Addressing the ceremony, Deputy Health Minister Pham Le Tuan said the aid mostly aims to help project-covered provinces improve the capacity of their grass-root health units, thus helping ease overload at provincial and central medical facilities.

At present, around 70 percent of patients who often go to provincial and central health facilities for check-up and treatment can be treated successfully at grass-root health units, the health official added.

Health care will continue receiving the EU’s funding.-VNA
