The European Union (EU) is keen on bilateral free trade agreement (FTA) negotiations with Vietnam , heading to a comprehensive Vietnam-EU FTA in future.

EU Trade spokesman, John Clancy on Mar. 1 said the EU is expecting to start official negotiations with Vietnam as soon as possible.

According to Clancy, preparations for FTA talks including the creation of a feasible document on basic parameters and concrete goals for each area under FTA negotiations should be conducted thoroughly.

The EU and Vietnam have been working together to finalise the document. Once the both sides reach consensus on the document, negotiations will officially begin.-VNA
