The disbursement confirms the strong andcontinued support of the EU to the Vietnamese government’s reformstrategy and poverty-reduction agenda, said Ambassador Sean Doyle.
He also said the EU delegation will continue to work closely withthe government on key policy reforms, in addition to providingtechnical assistance to build capacity of strategic institutions.
EU’s decision to disburse 13 million EUR takes account of timelyand appropriate policy reform in a number of key areas, such asenhancing the financial management of state-owned enterprises,formulating an education development strategy and a comprehensiveanti-corruption strategy, elaborating a public debt management law andformulating a national target programme on adaptation to climate change.
The disbursement is part of a 44 million EUR grantagreement signed by the EU and the government of Vietnam in 2009.Under this agreement, funds will be distributed to Vietnam annuallyover the course of three years through the joint-donor Poverty ReductionSupport Credit (PRSC).
The EU has been an active member ofthe PRSC since 2004 and is Vietnam’s second largest grant donor./.
