Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) signed a contract worth 1.4 billion USD for construction of a thermo electric plant with China ’s Dongfang Electric Corporation in Hanoi on March 30.
Once the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contract
becomes effective, the construction of the Duyen Hai 1 thermo electric plant project’s main plant will begin some time this year and is expected to be operational for 50 years as of the second quarter of 2014.
EVN General Director Pham Le Thanh said that the project is one of three plants of the Duyen Hai Electricity Centre, part of the national power development scheme for the 2006-2015 period.
Located in Dan Thanh commune, Duyen Hai district in the southern province of Tra Vinh , the 1,245MW Duyen Hai 1 plant will consume around 3.5 million tonnes of anthracite coal dust to produce between 7.5-8 billion kWh per year.
EVN said it is completing a 105km transmission line connecting Duyen Hai and the southern province of Ben Tre and upgrading other lines to enable the plant to supply power to the national grid./.
