A travelling exhibition that is an emergency assistance call for saving wildlife in Vietnam will target school children in HCM City.
The non-profit organisation, Wildlife At Risk (WAR), in collaboration with the HCM City Department of Education and Training and the HCM City Forest Protection Division, launched the campaign on Dec. 2 at the Minh Duc Secondary School in District 1.
The campaign is spearheaded by a 60sq.m tent that features different interactive exhibits, models and games to emphasise that consumption of wildlife products poses a serious threat to wildlife.
"The exhibition highlights serious issues of illegal wildlife product consumption in an impressive but relaxed manner for the students," said Do Thi Thanh Huyen, wildlife education manager of WAR.
It also provides students and teachers with useful information related to illegal wildlife product consumption and calls on every one to join hands to protect rare and threatened species to prevent them from extinction like the Javan Rhino, said Tran Van Thanh, director of the Cat Tien National Park.
Forest rangers at the park uncover around 500 violations and seize 20,000 traps and 20 shotguns of various kinds every year, Thanh said, adding that consumption demand is the major cause of the illegal hunt for wild animals.
The SOS travelling exhibition will carry its message to 40 secondary schools in the city by the end of 2012./.
