The Vietnamese community in Thailand is instrumental to connecting the two countries, Thailand-Vietnam Friendship Association Chairman Prachuab Chaiyasan said.

The Vietnamese expatriates there form a united community that lives in harmony with local culture and laws, the former Thai Foreign Minister said at a meeting with about 1,000 Vietnamese people in Sakon Nakhon Province on October 17, which was held on the occasion of a visit by Vietnamese Deputy Foreign Minister and Chairman of the State Commission for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs Vu Hong Nam.

Deputy FM Nam said cultural similarities are a stepping stone for the two countries to strengthen their bilateral friendship, which is in its prime at present.

With the political trust and comprehensive strategic partnership, the nations have a solid foundation for their ties to grow on, he said, adding that each expatriate is important to enhancing the relationship.

The official also expressed his hope that Thai agencies and authorities, especially those in the northeastern region that is home to large numbers of Vietnamese nationals, would provide the best possible conditions for the expatriates to contribute more to local socio-economic development.

The meeting was also attended by Vietnamese Ambassador Nguyen Tat Thanh, Chairman of the Vietnamese General Association in Thailand Cao Van San and Sakon Nakhon provincial officials.-VNA
