Exploring Da River during flood season

Muong Lay, the smallest town in Vietnam, nestles besides the Son La hydropower reservoir on Da river in the northwestern province of Dien Bien. Each year, the water levels on the reservoir rise for around six months. Taking advantage of this seasonal change, Muong Lay has offered boat tours to Tua Chua district in Dien Bien and Nam Nhun district in neighbouring Lai Chau province.

The reservoir on Da River looks like a picturesque painting when the flood season arrives.

Tourists on boats can enjoy the stunning scenery of the clear blue lake, the majestic Da River, the towering mountains, and the villages of Thai and Dao ethnic groups along the riverside.

Flood-season tourism on the Da River takes place from October to March next year, featuring a variety of activities, including a boat racing festival, a national paragliding club championship, jet surfing and paragliding experiences, and sight-seeing trips on the reservoir. Visitors can also join in activities in Thai ethnic villages, such as Xoe dancing, bamboo dancing, traditional folk games, try ethnic cuisine, and more.

Flood-season tourism on the Da River not only provides exciting experiences but also creates livelihoods for local residents.

It helps establish the Da River as a must-visit destination on the Northern region’s tourism map./.
