Exploring new Vietnam Military History Museum

Built by the Ministry of National Defence since 2019, the new Vietnam Military History Museum on Thang Long Boulevard, Nam Tu Liem District, Hanoi, will replace the old facility on Dien Bien Phu Street, which closed on September 30, 2024.

Standing tall in the front courtyard of the new museum is the 45-meter-high Victory Tower. The main museum building features four floors above ground and one basement. It covers a construction area of 23,198 square meters, with a total floor space of 64,640 square meters.

The museum houses over 150,000 artifacts, including four National Treasures, displayed across six chronologically themed sections:

The first section is devoted to the initial stage in nation-building and defense

The second is on the struggle to defend independence from 939 to 1858

The third one covers the resistance against French colonial rule to gain national independence from 1858 to 1945

The fourth is on the resistance war against French colonialist aggressors from 1945 to 1954

The fifth section is on the resistance war against US from 1954 to 1975 and the sixth is about national construction and defense from 1976 to present.

The exhibits also include rare historical photos and documents of important meetings and operations of many military units, giving spectators an overall view of major events and battles in the military history of Vietnam.

The interactive displays include text, multimedia presentations, audioguides, and QR codes for additional information.

Phase 1 of the museum's construction has been completed, and it is scheduled to open its doors to visitors on November 1, 2024./.
