A four-day international expo on energy efficiency and the environment is to open at Hanoi's Giang Vo fair and exhibition centre on May 27.

The expo has attracted 150 domestic and foreign firms, including those from the Republic of Korea, mainland China, India and Taiwan.

The 250 stalls on the 15,000-sq.m area will display energy efficiency equipment, plus technology in recycling, coal, nuclear, transportation, fuel, household facilities and also consulting, solutions and the environment. A feature at the expo will be a separate 136-sq.m area to showcase energy efficiency achievements of the capital in the last five years.

"This is an opportunity for companies to access and apply energy efficient equipment and technologies to help them cut costs and sharpen their competitiveness," said director Dao Hong Thai of the Hanoi Centre for Energy Efficiency and Conservation.

Cleaner production strategies had been ratified with targets set, including raising producers' awareness, and 25 percent of the manufacturers would apply cleaner production by 2015, Thai said.

The expo would also feature seminars on energy efficiency, recycling, new energy and environmental solutions./.
