Family and Juvenile Court inaugurated in Dong Thap

The southern province of Dong Thap inaugurated its Family and Juvenile Court on June 22, making it the second province in Vietnam to have a specialized court for children.

Dong Thap (VNA) – The southern province of Dong Thapinaugurated its Family and Juvenile Court on June 22, making it the secondprovince in Vietnam to have a specialized court for children.

Ho Chi Minh City is the first to establish the court in the country.

The ceremony was chaired by Chief Justice of the Supreme People’s CourtNguyen Hoa Binh, and was attended by the Minister of Home Affairs Le Vinh Tanand Minister of Justice Nguyen Thanh Long.

The establishment of the Family and Juvenile Court is part of efforts toreform justice for children, which aims to allow children, their families andexperts to participate more fully in the litigation process through more children-friendly,gender-sensitive legal procedures and specially-trained judges.

Addressing the ceremony, Deputy Chief Justice of the Supreme People’sCourt Le Hong Quang stressed that the Family and Juvenile Court is aninstitution designed to specialize in dealing with matters related to familiesand adolescents,

He said the court will be a central component of the national system forchildren protection, and play a very important role in connecting judicial andsocial welfare agencies for the prevention and response to risks in the fieldof child protection and juvenile crimes.-VNA
