A cheque worth 386 million VND was handed over by France’s Ambassador to Vietnam Herve Bolot and Philippe Bouler, representing famous French singer Francis Cabrel, to a nursery for orphans in Bac Kan province at a ceremony in Hanoi on December 8.

The amount represents the takings from the two performances the singer gave in Hanoi on October 6 and 7.

The donation underlines the love Cabrel has for the Vietnamese people as well as orphans in the northern mountainous province of Bac Kan where Cabrel had previously adopted a Dao ethnic girl as his daughter, said Bouler.

Earlier, in a trip to Vietnam in October, Cabrel expressed his admiration for the Vietnamese people who bravely stood up to fight for their freedom. “My love for Vietnam grew after I first visited the country”, said Cabrel.

Speaking at the ceremony, the French Ambassador confirmed that France is committed to providing further support for children in the province who are orphaned or in difficulties.

Cabrel became widely known in 1978 after he won the award for most popular singer at the Festival de Spa, in Belgium. The singer, with his emotive voice and romantic songs, has millions of fans around the world./.
