The Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) has proposed to help Vietnam in dealing with food security and foodstuff hygiene, developing a sustainable agriculture, improving livelihoods in rural areas, and strengthening climate change adaptation.

It is part of the organisation’s Country Programming Framework (CPF) in Vietnam for the 2012-2016 period, and is the focus of a seminar hosted by the Vietnamese Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development in Hanoi on January 15.

Through the CPF, the FAO focuses on long-term development solutions, such as the building of a law system and policies that attract investment for agriculture and rural area restructuring projects, and the allocation of 20-30 percent of resources to technical assistance to address disease and biological safety problems that may arise.

The organisation will continue to combine issues relating to health, environmental resources and climate change influences with activities to develop the agriculture, forestry and fishery sectors, as well as rural areas in Vietnam .

According to the CPF building support group, agricultural growth in Vietnam has slowed down in recent years, from 4.2 percent in 2005 to 2.78 percent in 2010./.VNA
