Hanoi (VNA) – The eighth annual meeting of the International Network of Women Engineers and Scientists-Asia and Pacific Nation Network (INWES-APNN) will take place in Hanoi on October 18-20.

The event will be jointly held by the Vietnam Women’s Union and the Vietnam Association for Intellectual Women (VAIW), gathering 180 Vietnamese women and 85 female delegates from other countries in the Asian-Pacific region, VAIW Vice President Nguyen Thi Hoi announced at a press conference on October 15.

During the three-day meeting, participants are expected to take part in discussions on gender and gender equality in science and technology, food safety and nutrition, and natural disaster risk management and climate change adaptation.

A Hanoi Declaration will be adopted on October 19, outlining the commitments of APNN members towards strengthening cooperation and coordination, as well as sharing experience between female scientists and engineers in the region to further contribute to the growth of the region, the world, and the implementation of the United Nations’ sustainable development goals (SDGs), Hoi stated.

“The declaration will acknowledge the importance of female scientists in sustainable growth and the development of economies during the Fourth Industrial Revolution, as well as the necessity to narrow the gender gap in science and technology,” she added.

Established in 2011, INWES is a global network of organisations for women in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), reaching over 60 countries worldwide with 250,000 members, and a UNESCO partner. Along with APNN, INWES includes INWES-Europe and INWES-Africa.–VNA
