Over the past five years, PetroVietnam Fertilizer and Chemicals Joint Stock Company (PVFCCo) has produced nearly 3.5 million tonnes of fertilizer, saving the country 1.3 billion USD against importing the product.

Chairman of PVFCCO Nguyen Xuan Thang made the remark at a workshop on September 15 in Hanoi to review the efficiency of the investment, operation and consumption of products turned out by the Phu My Fertilizer Plant, which is currently managed by PVFCCO.

Chairman Thang said that PVFCCO has set up its own distribution network of 40 shops and signed contracts to sell fertiliser to 60 wholesalers and nearly 3,700 retailers nationwide.

Speaking at the workshop, General Secretary of Fertilizer Association of Vietnam Nguyen Hac Thuy said that the company has played an important role in stabilising the fertiliser market, as it holds over 40 percent of the market share.

The company’s import and export activities have also contributed to the successful implementation of the policy to curb inflation and the stabilisation of fertiliser prices in the domestic market in 2008, Thuy said.

However, Thuy added that the PVFCCO should continue to improve its business methods and marketing system as well as expand its market, to boost its competitiveness so farmers may benefit from its one-price policy.

The Phu My Fertilizer Plant is the first to produce nitrogenous fertilizer with modern technology in the south-eastern region. It has a design capacity of 740,000 tonnes of urea per year.

In addition, PVFCCo is preparing for a trial run of the Ca Mau fertilizer plant with an annual capacity of 800,000 tonnes./.
