Festival, awards to celebrate Vietnamese film
A celebration of Vietnamese cinema has
been planned for next week to honour Vietnamese film talents from the
past to the present day.

The event will be launched with the event “A Day of Vietnamese Cinema” on March 15.
The entire cinematic event would include seminars and activities from March 10 to 15 in both HCM City and Hanoi . Most would focus on fostering creativity within the film industry.
Plans call for the Centre for Assistance and Development of Movie Talents to host a round table in Hanoi on March 13 with focused discussion on the international integration of Vietnamese cinema. International artists are expected to be among the participants.
Two excursions would take veteran artists on return trips to the cradles of Vietnamese cinema, Dong Thap province in the south and Thai Nguyen province in the north.
Classic movie buffs would have the chance to watch old movies and meet the artists during the event.
In celebration of the 100 th International Women’s Day, the Vietnam Film Institute and the Vietnam Women’s Museum collaborated to open a photo exhibition featuring female film stars in classic Vietnamese movies.
The photos are on display in groups of three different time periods: war time, from 1959-75; reconstruction, from 1976-86; and development and international integration, from 1987 to the present. Visitors may enjoy the exhibit at No. 36 Ly Thuong Kiet Street , Hanoi .
The highlight of the event would be the Golden Kite Awards on March 14 in Hanoi . Awards would be given out by the Vietnam Cinematography Association to the best artists and works in a number of categories, including cinematography, television series, documentary and research, among others. Awards for the best actress and actor in television series would be awarded for the first time this year.
“Prizes for television actors are necessary because television series are very popular,” said Nguyen Van Tan, office manager of the association.
Eighty-eight films are competing in categories such as: feature film, documentary, television series and animated cartoon.
Free screenings of eight feature films, including recent block busters “Bay Rong” (Clash), “Nhung Nu Hon Ruc Ro” (The Brilliant Kisses), and prizes winning films such as “Dung Dot” (Don’t Burn) and “Choi Voi” (Adrift), would be shown at the National Cinema Centre and Ngoc Khanh Cinema.
The Awards will take place on March 14 at the Cultural Friendship Palace , Hanoi , and air on VTV1 and 4/.
