A festival to celebrate aquaculture and seafood production the Cuu Long ( Mekong ) Delta provinces will be held in Can Tho city next month.

To Minh Gioi, deputy chairman of the city People’s Committee told a press conference held on March 28 that the Can Tho Seafood Festival 2010 would take place from April 24-27 with the participation of many provinces and cities.

“The festival will be a great opportunity for aquaculture farmers, fishermen and around 400-450 seafood businesses in the country and abroad to meet the exchange views and information,” he said.

The festival also aims to highlight the vast aquaculture and fisheries potential in the delta with its millions of waterways.

It seeks to enhance the reputation of Vietnamese seafood.

Key activities in the festival include conferences on improving seafood quality for export markets, policies for sustainable development of the seafood sector, and legal corridors for seafood exports, a trade promotion event for seafood businesses, a contest for the biggest shrimp and catfish, and a food festival featuring delta specialities.

Until now, the festival’s organising committee has received 15 billion VND in sponsorship from seven businesses.-Enditem

Can Tho (VNA) – The Indonesian community donated 120 wheelchairs to Agent Orange victims in Can Tho city on March 27.

The gesture aims to enhance solidarity and friendship between the people of both nations, community representatives said.

The wheelchairs were handed over to the Vietnam Association for Victims of Agent Orange (VAVA) in the city by the Indonesian Consulate General in HCM City./.
