Festival highlights Thai ethnic people’s culture values

Xoe Chieng Festival is a crucial event of Thai ethnic people in the northwestern region. The festival took place in Than Uyen district, Lai Chau province on Februarty 12 and 13 (the 8^th and 9^th day of the Lunar New Year).

Thai people believe that rice and corn won’t be in the ear and couples cannot live happily if Xoe dance is no longer performed. Therefore, Xoe Chieng Festival with its core activity of xoe dancing is an indispensable part in the cultural life of Thai ethnic people.

Visitors to the festival can watch and join Xoe dances with locals. Traditional games, competitions and sports are also among activities exhilarating visitors to the festival.

Xoe Chieng festival is hosted in Than Uyen district annually with a view to preserving the traditional values of local Thai ethnic people, as well as praying for good crops and prosperous year ahead.-VNA
