Hanoi (VNS/VNA) - A training course to improve VAR (Video Assistant Referee) refereeing for Vietnamese officials has been taking place in Hanoi with the support of the Saudi Arabia Football Federation.
The event, jointly organised by the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF), National Professional Football Joint Stock Company (VPF), and VFF Referee Board, is taking place over five days until June 8.
VFF President Tran Quoc Tuan said that with the good relationship between the two national federations, the VFF asked the Saudi Arabian Football Federation for support in training referees, sending experts to provide assistance, as well as gradually transferring and supporting modern technologies that can be applied to Vietnamese football.
Directly teaching at the training class, Farkhad Abdullaev, a FIFA referee instructor, said: "In this course, we will focus on important issues related to VAR intervention.
"We will also have exchanges and share experiences about situations at other major tournaments around the world. Most importantly, we must follow the requirements and comply with all standards according to FIFA's VAR operating guidelines," he said.
In addition to FIFA referee instructor Farkhad Abdullaev, there are four Vietnamese instructors, including the head of the VFF Referee Board, Dang Thanh Ha.
Through the training programme, 29 VAR and AVAR (Assistant Video Assistant Referee) referees will take tests, train on the computer usage and learn to handle situations through video.
In the 2023/24 season, VAR has been applied in 64 matches, including two matches in the quarter-finals of the 2023/24 National Cup. The presence of this modern technology has significantly increased the accuracy of referees' match management, making tournaments fairer and more attractive./.
