Fifty five new measles cases were reported across the country on May 5, while 15 cities and provinces saw no new cases on the day.

The new infections brought the total measles incidence since early this year to 4,085.

One patient succumbed to the disease on May 5 at Bach Mai Hospital in Hanoi, and another death late May 4 at the Central Paediatric Hospital also in Hanoi, pushing the total fatalities from measles to 135, all in the northern region.

The vaccination campaign undertaken by the health sector has raised the vaccinated rate among children to 86.5 percent on May 5, up 1.2 percent from one day earlier. However, four localities still recorded a vaccinated rate under 70 percent, which were Dien Bien in the north, Binh Thuan in the central region and Ho Chi Minh City and An Giang in the south.-VNA
