The VN-Index remained largely unchanged on Sept. 16, closing up just 0.38 points to 556.98, as a strong performance by financial shares helped counteract an ongoing wave of profit-taking.

Market trading continued heady on a combined volume of 63.1 million shares, generating a turnover of 3.3 trillion VND (185.4 million USD). Saigon Securities Inc (SSI) was the market leader, with 3 million shares traded.

On the Hanoi Stock Exchange, the HNX-Index performed slightly better, adding 0.92 percent to end the day at 174.87 points.

The value of trades on the northern market remained brisk at 1.5 trillion VND (84.3 million USD) on a volume of 41.8 million shares. Asia Commercial bank (ACB) claimed the top spot as the most active share, with nearly 5 million traded.

Foreign investors were net sellers on the HCM Exchange, selling off a net volume of 2 million shares, while their trades turned positive in Hanoi, as they picked up a net of about 600,000 shares. Data from the State Securities Commission have shown that foreigners were holding 5.7 billion USD worth of securities as of August./.
