Fire sweeps through 10ha of forest in Thua Thien-Hue

The forests, aged nearly 10 years old, were planted on sand.

Scorchingweather and strong wind were attributed to the quick spread of thefire, said Le Truong Luu, Vice Chairman of the Thua Thien Hue People’sCommittee.

According to local residents, the fire might be caused by human carelessness.

Centrallocalities are facing a high risk of forest fire due to hot weather inthe dry season, which normally lasts from May to August.

Last year, 250 fires occurred across the country, ruining 965ha of forest.-VNA

Storm brings heavy rains to northern Vietnam

Storm Narra, the fourth to hit the East Sea this year, brought strong winds and heavy rains to northern Vietnam on early August 22, with some areas forecast to receive more than 500mm of rain as the storm moves slowly over the northern waters of the East Sea.
