Thanh Do General Hospital, the first international-standard medical facility of its kind in the hi-tech Hoa Lam – Shangri La Healthcare Park, was inaugurated in Ho Chi Minh City on January 5.

After three years of construction, the hospital was put into use on September 24, 2013, offering 320 beds and a contingent of over 600 doctors.

Sprawling over 2.5 hectares, it has been funded by the Hoa Lam – Shangri La Medical Company, a joint venture between Vietnam’s Hoa Lam firm and Singapore’s Shangri-La Healthcare Investment Company. The hospital is being run by Singapore’s Parkway Health Group.

Addressing the ceremony, Minister of Public Health Nguyen Thi Kim Tien said the Party, State and National Assembly will continue to encourage investors to build high-quality medical facilities, helping ease overloads in major cities.

She expressed hope that the hospital will become a prestigious destination and meet demands for health check-ups and treatment.

The 37.5 hectare park complex plans to have six hospitals with over 1,700 beds, a nursing college, laboratory, trade and service areas, accommodation for medical staff and patients’ relatives, and a kindergarten.

Construction on tumour and cardiovascular – neurology hospitals with 700 beds will begin this year.-VNA
