The first international conference on global security, which is being held under the auspices of Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, opened in the central Russian city of Jaroslav on Sept. 14.

The meeting, entitled “Modern state and global security,” brought together more than 500 politicians, economists and scientists from 18 countries around the world, including Russian President Medvedev, French Prime Minister Francois Fillon and Spanish Prime Minister Jose Rodriguez Zapatero.

High on the agenda of the conference are the problems of overcoming the world economic crisis, creating a new post-crisis world, prospects for creating new international institutions, democratic standards of modern statehood, various forms of democratic models, and structures for new international security.

The conference will also touch upon four other topics: social responsibility of a modern state, experiences in building democracy, trans-national cooperation and the operational efficiency of global institutions, and the fight against terrorism, separatism and xenophobia.

The conferences is expected to be held annually in the future to serve as a forum for politicians, scientists and economic experts to discuss international security and other global issues./.
