The first session of the 13 th National Assembly will open on July 21 and close on August 5, focusing on the legislative body’s organisation and personnel work.

This information was released during the 40 th session of the Standing Committee of the 12 th National Assembly, which was held in Hanoi on June 1 to report the results of the elections of deputies to the 13 th NA and People’s Councils at all levels for the 2011-2016 tenure and make preparations for the 13 th NA’s first session.

The session will spend 11 days considering and deciding on organisational and personnel work in accordance with legal regulations and in line with common practice of the NA in the previous tenure.

At the session, most members of the NA Standing Committee agreed on the prepared agenda of the 13 th NA’s first session, which will also consider and decide on several important issues, such as the 2012 Law and Ordinance Building Programme and measures to implement socio-economic development plans and the State budget in the last six months of 2011, as well as approve the 2009 State budget balance.

They also agreed with the Government’s proposal to delay the submission of two draft laws, including the Water Resources Law (amended) and the Tertiary Education Law, until the NA’s second session./.
