The first session of the 13 th National Assembly (NA) opened in Hanoi at 8:30 am on July 21.

General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee and Chairman of the 12 th NA Nguyen Phu Trong delivered an opening speech.

On the first day, 12 th NA Vice Chairman and Standing Vice President of the Central Election Council Tong Thi Phong will present a report on the results of the elections of deputies to the 13 th NA and People’s Councils at all levels for the 2011-2016 tenure.

President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee Huynh Dam will report on voters’ opinions and suggestions during the 13 th NA election.

Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Sinh Hung is to deliver a report on the country’s socio-economic situation and State budget in the first half of 2011 as well as major tasks and measures for the last six months of the year.

Ha Van Hien, member of the 12 th NA Standing Committee and Head of the 12 th NA’s Committee for Economics, will report on the NA’s verification of the Government’s report.

Before the opening ceremony, NA deputies paid tribute to President Ho Chi Minh at his mausoleum and laid wreaths at the Monument to Heroes and Fallen Soldiers./.
