First talks held on sinking of Cheonan warship

The DPRK armed force on July 15 held their first round of talks with the US-led UN Command (UNC) since the Republic of Korea ’s warship the Chenoan was sunk on March 26.

Bothsides met at the village of Panmunjeom on the border to discussthe incident, according to a spokesman for the command. Details of thetalks between a US and a DPRK colonel were not immediatelyavailable.

A multinational investigation led by the RoK hasalready accused the DPRK of torpedoing the Cheonan, killing 46 sailors.

TheDPRK vehemently denied the allegations and has threatened a militaryresponse to any attempts to punish it.

Meanwhile, the UnitedNations Security Council has released a statement without pointing thefinger at the DPRK and called on both countries to settle the issuethrough peaceful solutions./.
