The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea armed force on July 15 held their first round of talks with the US-led UN Command (UNC) since the Republic of Korea ’s warship the Chenoan was sunk on March 26, increasing tensions in the region, according to world news reports.

Both sides met at the village of Panmunjeom on the border to discuss the incident, according to a spokesman for the command. Details of the talks between a US and a DPRK colonel were not immediately available.

A multinational investigation led by the RoK has already accused the DPRK of torpedoing the Cheonan, killing 46 sailors.

The DPRK vehemently denied the allegations and has threatened a military response to any attempts to punish it.

Meanwhile, the United Nations Security Council has released a statement without pointing the finger at the DPRK and called on both countries to settle the issue through peaceful solutions./.
