Hanoi (VNA) – Myanmar has recorded its first Zika infection, reported Myanmar media on October 27.

A 32-year-old pregnant foreign woman living in Yangon tested positive for the mosquito-borne virus, confirmed health authorities.

Efforts to control Zika virus infections are exerted.

The Zika virus has spread through Asia in recent months with more than 300 cases in Thailand.

It is spread mostly by Aedes mosquito, with those infected suffering flu-like symptoms, including fever, sore eyes and a rash. Pregnant women with the virus risk giving birth to babies with microcephaly – a deformation that leads to abnormally small brains and heads.

A cure or vaccine for the virus have yet to be discovered.-VNA
