Fisheries sector aims for 8.5 bln USD export turnover in 2015

Speaking at the Directorate of Fisheries’ year-end conference inHanoi on December 26, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and RuralDevelopment Vu Van Tam said that the sector will strive for a totaloutput of 6.65 million tonnes, including 3.95 million tonnes fromfarming.

To achieve the goals, the directoratewill focus on controlling diseases, and improving the farmingenvironment, Tam said.

It will also implement tasks mentioned in the sector’s development strategy and plan by 2020, he added.

In 2014, despite difficulties and challenges relating to weather,diseases, market barriers and the East Sea issue, the sectorrecorded a total output of 6.3 million tonnes, up 4.4 percent againstthe previous year.

Its exports fetched 7.92 billion USD, rising by 18 percent and surpassing the set target by 11.6 percent.-VNA
