Hanoi (VNA) – The Investigation Police Department under the Ministry of Public Security has decided to prosecute the case related to 149 Vietnamese citizens who fled to Taiwan to work illegally under tourist visas, and began legal proceedings against five involved defendants.        

According to the initial investigation, the Ho Chi Minh City-based International Holidays Trading Travel Co. Ltd worked alongside a Taiwanese partner to help the group obtain tourist visas. The investigation verified that the 149 Vietnamese citizens migrated to Taiwan to work illegally from December 21-23, 2018.

The department ordered the prosecution, arrest and house search warrants for Tran Van Danh, 30, and Nguyen Thi Thanh Ha, 35, from Ho Chi Minh City; Nguyen Xuan Hung, 41, and Vu Nhat Tuan, 59, from Hanoi.

Nguyen Lam Sy, 35, from Ho Chi Minh City, was also prosecuted. A search warrant for his house was also issued the same day, along with an order banning him from leaving his place of residence.

All of the five were prosecuted for arranging for Vietnamese citizens to go overseas illegally, according to Article 349 of the 2015 Criminal Code. –VNA
