The European Union (EU) Delegation in Vietnam awarded prizes to five winners of the 2015 climate change competition which took place from June 18 to 24 on the delegation’s Facebook Page.

The winners, Nguyen Trong Linh (Hanoi), Ngo Hoang Minh Quyen (Ho Chi Minh City), Nguyen Thi Nhu Quynh (Hanoi), Huynh Phuoc Thao (Hau Giang) and Tran Duc Quang (Da Nang city), received made-in-Vietnam bamboo Green Bicycles.

Some 1,000 entries were submitted to the organising board in response to multiple-choice questions and essay questions on a number of issues such as climate change impacts on Vietnam, educating children to conserve natural resources and reducing greenhouse effects and carbon dioxide emitted from transport vehicles.

Speaking at the award ceremony, Ph.D Franz Jessen, Head of the EU Delegation in Vietnam, voiced his delight at the involvement of youth in the competition. He said this showed Vietnamese awareness and concern over climate change issues which are troubling countries worldwide.

The EU and its member states are working to cut at least 40 percent of greenhouse gas emissions by 2030, he underscored.

The 2015 climate change competition is part of activities jointly held by the EU Delegation and embassies of its member states to celebrate European Climate Diplomacy Day (June 17).

It aimed to raise public awareness of climate change and its influence on the environment while popularising the United Nations’ Climate Change Conference held in Paris at the end of this year and joint activities to counter the pressing issue.-VNA
