Hanoi (VNA) Floods following downpours, along with gale and lightning, killed four and caused heavy losses in many central localities from October 14 to 16, according to the Central Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control.

In the central province of Nghe An, heavy rains inundated 5,250 houses, 2,819ha of crops and 1,668ha of aquatic farming. Besides, four houses collapsed due to landslides.

Nghe An also recorded five landslide sites on local mountains and nine others along National Highway 15.

In nearby Ha Tinh province, 107ha of crops have been flooded over the last few days. Downpours have also forced Huong Son and Huong Khe districts to close some schools to ensure safety for students.

To cope with flooding consequences and minimise losses, the standing board of the central steering committee has requested central provinces and cities, from Thanh Hoa to Khanh Hoa, to keep a close watch on the rain and flooding situation, ready response plans, and provide all-level authorities and people  with up-to-date information to take appropriate actions./.
