A whirlwind claimed two lives in the northern coastal city of Hai Phong late on June 23, including a pregnant women.

The municipal steering board for flood, storm control and rescues reported 55 others were injured, of them 32 were in critical conditions.

The disaster destroyed several road sections and damaged over 850 homes.

Responsible agencies in the city, especially in the worst-hit district of Thuy Nguyen, are taking measures to hospitalise the injured and evacuate those turning homeless to shelters.

At the same time, torrential rains wrecked havoc to the northern mountainous province of Yen Bai late June 22 and early June 23. Four locals from the H’mong ethnic minority group were swept away by a swollen stream when fishing. So far only the body of a child was recovered./.
