Fast-rising floods killed three in the southern province of An Giang while two people died in a landslide in the northern mountainous of Yen Bai on Sept. 29.
According to the An Giang’s Steering Committee for Flood and Storm Prevention and Search and Rescue, more than 2,000 houses were submerged under the highest floods over the past decade in the Mekong Delta, mainly in the districts of An Phu, tan Chau, Phu Tan, Cho Moi and Long Xuyen.
On Sept. 28, the floods broke many dike sections in An Giang with a total length of 125 metres.
The High Command of Military Zone 9 and the provincial police and military forces have sent 14,000 soldiers to help reinforce dikes and temporary dams./.
