The fatalities from heavy rains and floods in the central region climbed to 12 by 21 p.m of September 7, according to the National Committee for Search and Rescue.

Thanh Hoa province was the hardest hit with five people dead. Nghe An province reported four fatalities, Ha Tinh had two and one was killed in Ninh Binh province bordering Thanh Hoa.

Floods and landslide destroyed 62 houses and submerged more than 3,000 others. Over 19,000 hectares of food crops and orchards and many roads were also inundated.

Luong Son commune in Thanh Hoa’s Thuong Xuan district and seven villages of Chau Hoi commune in Nghe An’s Quy Chau district have been completely isolated.

Nearly 500 households of Thanh Hoa and Nghe An provinces were evacuated from dangerous areas./.
