Heavy rains and floods had killed five, injured six and left one missing in central provinces by the afternoon of September 6, according to the National Committee for Search and Rescue.

Among the deaths, two were in Thanh Hoa province, two in Nghe An province and one in Ha Tinh province.

The floods have also submerged more than 1,500 houses and over 1,800 ha of crops and fruit trees. Luong Son commune in Thanh Hoa province’s Thuong Xuan district has been totally isolated.

Many traffic routes in the region have been flooded. Especially, a 5-km section on National Road No. 1A from Tam Diep town in Ninh Binh province to the area near Bim Son town, Thanh Hoa province was deep in water, causing serious traffic congestion for many hours.

The Military Zone 4 has instructed its units to implement flood prevention, search and rescue measures and coordinate with regional localities in timely solving the consequences of the natural disaster.

According to the Central Hydrometeorological Forecasting Centre, floods on rivers from Thanh Hoa to Nghe An and in the lower section of La River are rising quickly. On September 7, the water levels on rivers in Thanh Hoa are forecast to reach the warning level 1 while that in the lower section of Ca River in Nghe An may hit the warning level 2./.VNA
