Programmes and projects implemented by international non-governmental organisations (INGO) have contributed to improving the daily life of underprivileged people in Ho Chi Minh City ( HCM City), according to HCM City Union of Friendship Organisations ( HUF O).

At a meeting with INGOs on June 20, HUFO Chairman Le Hung Quoc said the foreign aid flow has been maintained at a high level despite the economic downturn in the past year. A total of 31 million USD in foreign non-governmental aid has been disbursed mainly in the fields of health care, education-training, and poverty alleviation.

He added that the INGOs have also expanded their operations to neighbouring provinces with a total budget of about 100,000 USD.

The HUFO chairman said the city and southern provinces still need long-term support from the international community, including the INGOs, particularly in the fields of health care, education, society, and environment.

There are currently 132 NGOs licensed to operate in HCM City.-VNA
