Companies from the Republic of Korea, Japan and Singapore on July 30 sealed three deals worth hundreds of millions of USD in total with the Vietnam Machinery Erection Corporation (Lilama) to build and supply equipment for a thermal-power project in the central region.

The Hyundai Engineering Co. Ltd from the Republic of Korea won a 9 million USD contract to design the construction of the project, the Vung Ang thermal electricity plant I, in Ha Tinh province.

The second contract, valued at 112 million USD, came to the Toshiba-Sojitz Corporation from Japan for the supply of the project’s 2-unit turbine and power generating system and supervision over the assembly and test-running of the system.

The Yokogawa Engineering Asia Pte Ltd, based in Singapore, bagged a 16.6 million USD contract to supply the project’s entire automatic control system and be responsible for the supervision over the assembly and test-running of the system.

Lilama General Director Pham Hung unveiled the corporation’s plan to finish the signing of the remaining small-sized contracts within August so as to put the first turbine into operation on schedule by August 2012.

Once completed in March 2013, the project is expected to generate 8 billion kWh annually.

The Vung Ang thermal electricity plant with a design capacity of 1,200 MW is a long-term investment by the Vietnam National Oil and Gas Group (PetroVietnam), which is part of the national power development strategy for 2006-15, which has also considered the national demand for electricity up to 2025.

Lilama is the project’s sole contractor and is allowed to farm out different packages to sub-contractors./.
