Foreign diplomats from many embassies in Hanoi played friendly matches against teams of officials from Vietnamese ministries on June 29 as the excited spirit of the World Cup is overwhelming the capital city.

The event, co-organised by the French and German Embassies, saw the participation of staff of the French, German, UK, US and Italian embassies, with the French team headed by the French Ambassador Jean Noel Poirier.

On the Vietnamese side, there were teams of the Ministries of Transport, Education-Training, Culture-Sport-Tourism, Foreign Affairs, Planning-Investment and Public Security.

Besides the games, various activities were held and booths were set up at the site to introduce specialties of France and Germany.

France and Germany have entered the Round of 16, with France to play against Nigeria on June 30 while Germany will meet Algeria later the same day.-VNA
