President Truong Tan Sang will pay a State-level visit to Japan from March 16-19 at the invitation of Japanese Emperor Akihito, a Vietnamese Foreign Minister’s spokesperson has said.

During the visit, the two countries’ leaders will compare notes on the development of Vietnam-Japan strategic partnership over the past years, spokesman Le Hai Binh said at a press conference in Hanoi on March 13.

They will discuss major orientations as well as concrete measures to elevate the bilateral ties to a new height, contributing to peace, stability, development and prosperity in the region and the world as well, the spokesperson said.

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung will attend the third Nuclear Security Summit in The Hague, the Netherlands, from March 24-25 at the invitation of his Dutch counterpart Mark Rutte, the conference heard.

His attendance aims to affirm Vietnam’s policy of using nuclear power for peaceful purposes and ensuring nuclear safety and security, and introduce the country’s contributions to the international community’s joint efforts.

The PM is scheduled to deliver a speech at the event and hold bilateral meetings with high-ranking leaders of several countries.

Binh also informed that Chairman of National Assembly Nguyen Sinh Hung will attend the 130 th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in Geneva, Switzerland, from March 16 at the invitation of the IPU President Abdel Wahad Radi.

He is set to deliver a speech at the event and witness the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the Vietnamese legislature and the IPU regarding the country’s hosting of the 132 nd IPU Assembly.-VNA
