More than 440,000 foreign tourists visited Vietnam in October, double last year's figure, the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism reports.

In the first 10 months, the number of foreign arrivals was up 39 percent year -on-year at more than 4.17 million.

The number of visitors from Cambodia rose by 97.2 percent. The figures for China, Thailand,  the Republic of Korea and Japan were up 90.3 percent, 41 percent, 36.2 percent, and 22.2 percent, respectively.

In October holiday makers accounted for nearly 258,500 arrivals and business visitors, for 86,218. There were 45,855 people visiting for family reasons and 49,540 arriving for other purposes.

The capital welcomed 1.2 million domestic visitors and 30,000 foreigners in just the first 10 days of the month when celebrations were held to mark the 1,000th anniversary of Thang Long-Hanoi./.
