Kuala Lumpur (VNA) – Malaysia’s former Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin on March 13 was charged at the Shah Alam Sessions Court with receiving 5 million RM (1.1 million USD) in proceeds from unlawful activities.

According to the court’s indictment, Muhyiddin was accused of abusing his position as Malaysian United Indigenous Party (Bersatu) president to receive proceeds from unlawful activities amounting to 5 million RM from Bukhary Equity Sdn Bhd, said to be deposited into the party's AmBank account at the bank’s Amcorp Mall branch, Petaling Jaya on January 7, 2022.

The Bersatu president pleaded not guilty after the charge was read out to him.

The Shah Alam Sessions Court also upheld the bail terms for Muhyiddin presented at the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court on March 10.

On that day, he also pleaded not guilty to four charges of corruption amounting to 232.5 million RM and two counts of money laundering involving 195 million RM./.
