Vietnamese Ambassador to France Duong Chi Dung handed over Vietnam’s Friendship Order to the former chief representative of the World Health Organisation in Vietnam Jean Marc Olive, in Paris on Jan. 17.

Addressing the ceremony, Ambassador Dung highlighted Jean Marc Olive’s contributions to helping Vietnam control bird flu and avian influenza type H1N1 in 2008.

During his term of office in Vietnam from August 2007-December 2010, Jean Marc Olive actively coordinated financial sources and technical assistance for the country’s fight against HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, malaria and non-infectious diseases as well as the expanded vaccination programme, the diplomat said.

In addition, he assisted Vietnam in participating in international medical conferences and forums and preparing cooperation documents in healthcare to be signed between the Vietnamese Government and development partners.

Under his leadership, the WHO in Vietnam has effectively helped Vietnam to raise the quality of health care services, technological transfer and medical facilities, said Dung./.
