The Ministry of Planning and Investment, in collaboration with the World Bank, held a forum on sustainable development in the central coastal region in Quang Nam province on June 3.

Speaking at the event, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc stressed the importance of the region in the country’s socio-economic development, as it boasts great potential in deepwater ports, mineral resources and tourism.

He suggested regional localities combine economic development with environmental protection.

WB Country Director in Vietnam Victoria Kwakwa stated that the localities should coordinate closely to take full advantage of their potential to develop infrastructure and diversify tourism products.

During the forum, participants shared opinions on how to intensify socio-economic development while still protecting the environment, including strengthening transport infrastructure connectivity, using water resources in a sustainable manner and managing and mitigating the risks of natural disasters.

The central coastal region stretches from Ha Tinh to Phu Yen with a combined area of 51,824 sq.m and a total population of about 9.9 million.-VNA
