Chairman and CEO of software giant FPT Corporation Truong Gia Binh has become the first Vietnamese businessman to be awarded the Nikkei Asia Prize 2013 in recognition of his contributions to the development of information technology (IT) in Vietnam.
Binh, 56, received the award in the category of regional growth. He has not only contributed to the development of his own company but also to that of the IT sector in Vietnam, Nikkei Inc said on its website.
He set up a software industry organisation and a university to foster IT experts, it said.
Nkkei Asia Prizes have also been awarded to Indian professor Tejraj Aminabhavi and Cambodian architect Vann Molyvann.
Awarded annually, the prize recognises the achievements of people and organisation that have improved the lives of people throughout Asia.-VNA
