The Corporation for Financing and Promoting Technology (FPT) will grant 300 scholarships to children affected by Agent Orange (AO)/dioxin in the war-torn central province of Quang Tri through 2012.

FPT signed a memorandum of understanding to this effect with the National Fund for Vietnamese Children and the French association Vietnam les enfants de la dioxine (VNED) in support of AO/dioxin affected children, in Hanoi on August 20.

Under the terms of the agreement, FPT will hand out 100 scholarships annually, each worth 1.2 million VND, to disabled and AO/dioxin-affected children to help them continue studying or pursuing vocational training to integrate into the community.

FPT Deputy General Director Bui Quang Ngoc said he hoped that these scholarships would give partial support to AO/dioxin children with inborn deformities in study and vocational training, thereby leading a better life in the future.

In April, the corporation donated 100 million VND (nearly 6,000 USD) to VNED to pay for heart operations for children affected by the toxic chemical./.
